Jincom Translate raise awareness of HIV using animation
Jincom Translate recently developed a two-part animated series on HIV awareness for mineworkers in association with Lonmin's health clinics.
The key theme was that being HIV-positive does not mean having a death sentence and that a long life, and even starting a family, is still possible if patients stick to their treatment – as the main character, Mandla, finds out.
For the animation’s voiceover, voice artists were carefully selected to ensure that each character came across as authentic to a mining community.
To increase understanding, the English voiceover was translated into Setswana and isiXhosa as subtitles, as well as an engaging competition to enter where viewers could win airtime.
The finished animations were packaged into a DVD and delivered to Lonmin Clinic for distribution.
